Laikipia means treeless plain in Maasai language. Laikipia has multiple ethnic communities the kikuyu and Maasai form the largest portion of the residents. Other tribes mainly Borana, samburu, kalenjin, meru, Somali, turkana, pokot, European and Asian settlers are the resident minorities.
Maasai people have a deep almost sacred, relationship with cattle. They are the most ethnic tribe of Kenya, a tourist favorite. They speak the maa language.

Laikipia County has different religion but Christians and Muslim are principal religions. The pastoralist communities have cultures which suits their nomadic lifestyle, while the agricultural communities have different cultures suitable to their way of life.
