launch of destination laikipia

26th march 2018

Destination Laikipia is a concerted effort by the County Government of Laikipia (representing the public sector) in collaboration with the Laikipia Tourism Association (representing the private sector) to actualize our commitment in supporting Laikipia as the leading wildlife tourism destination; preferred choice for establishing holiday homes; the ultimate weekend rest and relaxation destination; the preferred conferencing destination and, the preferred County for unique high yielding investments.

Laikipia’s Tourism Sector has for too long been plagued by events that have affected tourism numbers into the County. Even though there have been concerted efforts by both the National and County governments as well as the private sector, more needs to be done to increase numbers into one of Kenya’s most iconic tourism destination.

The Laikipia County Government would therefore like to formally invite your media house to cover the official launch of Destination Laikipia, the first of many key projects being spearheaded the County government in partnership with the private sector.  The event is scheduled to take place on the 26th of March 2018 beginning at 5pm at the Cedar Mall – Nanyuki. We have scheduled a pre-launch meeting with the Kenya Tourist Board (KTB) and the Ministry of Tourism at 3pm at the Office of the Governor to give both KTB and the County Government of Laikipia the opportunity discuss pertinent issues that will be addressed at the launch. You will be invited for this important meeting should you confirm your attendance.

The success of the Laikipia County’s Tourism & Trade Strategy heavily depends on the strength of public private partnerships that are mutually beneficial.

Laikipia County, through Destination Laikipia, will maintain strong relationships with a wide range of actors in the tourism sector, which is vital to the negotiation of these partnerships. These partnerships leverage financial and technical expertise and promotional benefits from private and government partners in exchange for improvement in stakeholder relations, marketing, and improved product and service delivery. Destination Laikipia will work with the private sector to increase sales revenue and jobs, improve visitor experiences, provide alternative incomes for local communities, decrease levels of conservation threats in areas of high biodiversity, diversify production and increased production for small farms, provide high yielding marketing options for beef and other meat products and overall improvement of sustainability of the destination.

Other invited guests to the launch include: Representatives from the County governments of Nyeri, Meru and Nyandurua (representing the Mt. Kenya Circuit) as well as representatives from the County governments of Samburu, Isiolo, Marsabit and Baringo (representing the Amaya Initiative Tourism Circuit).

Members of the press and members from the Laikipia Tourism Association are also set to attend this very important function.
